Greenfly Aviation

Greenfly Aviation (Pty) Ltd, located in Montagu, operates nationwide in South Africa and has plans to expand into Kenya, Uganda, and Mozambique. Holding a valid Air Services License and RPAS/UAS Operators Certificate, the company is authorized for B-VLOS, night, and high-altitude operations, including the release of agricultural agents and biocontrols.

Greenfly Aviation operates a fleet of long-range aircraft specifically configured for extensive agricultural surveys, farm and reserve security, and the deployment of biocontrols. Our Air Services License allows for operations in G3, G4, G5, G8, G10 and G16 categories.

What Differentiates Us

Greenfly Aviation is dedicated to enhancing South Africa's biodiversity and improving agricultural practices by eliminating harmful chemicals from farming, reducing agricultural carbon emissions, and safeguarding biodiversity through effective biocontrol methods.

Our team has deep expertise in environmental science, management, invasive alien plants, biocontrols, fire risk, and climate change. Boland Risk Solutions (BRS) and FlyH2 Aerospace, our parent companies, enhance our services with their expertise in rural farm security and in developing long-range, enduring aircraft.

To this extent, we have developed solutions for the detection and classification of invasive alien plants as well as technology to aid their removal with non-toxic chemical methods. We have also internally developed live insect release hoppers as well as for the dispersal of biocontrols.

Our Capability:

The Recce, our advanced B-VLOS portable fixed-wing VTOL equipped with RGB and Multispectral imaging, offers 3-4 hours of flight endurance for detailed environmental surveys. Our approach includes sophisticated mapping and cloud-based visualization software to address the challenge of invasive alien plants (IAPs), which consume up to 30% of South Africa's freshwater.

Considering that 50% of the nation's water is sourced from just 5% of the land, the urgency to keep water catchment areas free from IAPs is paramount. The imminent deployment of our Dragonfly V, with its impressive 16-hour endurance, promises to significantly expand our daily operational coverage and reduce costs, presenting a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional manned aircraft operations.

This strategic enhancement will bolster our efforts to protect vital ecosystems, including the Cape Floral Kingdom, by effectively managing the spread of invasive species.

Greenfly Aviation, in strategic partnership with X-Sterile Insect Technique (XSIT), has innovated in the field of biocontrol deployment through the development of cutting-edge hopper technology, specifically designed for our Dragonfly V aircraft. This aircraft stands out with its remarkable all-day flight endurance, accommodating underwing pods that can be configured for a variety of missions, from carrying biocontrols to extending flight range with additional hydrogen fuel.

This technological advancement not only enhances the precision and reach of biocontrol agent deployment but also significantly elevates operational safety and efficiency. By replacing hazardous traditional crop spraying methods with our drone technology, we substantially lower the risks associated with low-altitude, manual spraying.

Moreover, our specialized GPS counter technology enables real-time monitoring and mapping of biocontrol releases, offering comprehensive data insights. This facilitates meticulous quality assessment and strategic planning, ensuring optimal coverage and impact.

Dragonfly V, designed for farm and game reserve security, also offers significant operational savings for daytime wildlife management tasks, such as game counting. This aircraft features advanced surveillance capabilities, including thermal infrared for detecting unauthorized individuals at night and RADAR systems for snare and gin trap detection.

Our collaboration with DroneSAR, led by Mike Inggs, focuses on leveraging RADAR technology to address the critical issue of endangered wildlife falling victim to undetected snares—a cruel fate inflicted by bushmeat poaching. This initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing conservation efforts, with the dual benefits of improving security and enabling efficient wildlife monitoring.

We are working closely with farmers to trial cutting-edge

new agri-tech solutions in pursuit of reduced costs and increased yields.

Partnerships

Greenfly Aviation collaborates with leading innovators and service providers to deliver drone-based solutions that are safe and compliant with regulations. They streamline the integration of customer-employed pilots and drones into their operations, tailoring Standard Operating Procedures for approval by the South African Civil Aviation Authority. This process allows clients to operate their own aircraft under Greenfly Aviation's Aviation Management System, ensuring efficient and safe operation of aircraft within our regulatory framework.
